Water Conservation...Conserving water use is one of the most important things an individual can practice in order to help their local wastewater treatment system. Some simple things you can do to reduce your water use are listed below. Turn off water while brushing teeth or shavingThis can save 3 to 7 gallons of water per minute! Install low-flow toilets or make your ownLow flow toilets can cut indoorwater use by 20%. A liter bottle filled with rocks and water placed in the tank of your toilet will reduce the amount of water used during each flush. Try a Submarine shower...Do to a lack of water on a ship, seamen were taught to get wet, turn off the water, soap and scrub, and turn on the water to rinse. Use a timer to see who in your family can take the shortest shower. Install low flow faucets and shower headsOld faucets use between 5 and 7 gallons per minute. New, inexpensive low flow devices use no more than 2.5 gallons per minute. During a typical 10 minute shower, this could save 45 gallons of water! Use excess water to water household plantsStick a jug under the faucet while you wait for it to heat up or cool down. Use this water for your plants. Also, use a partially consumed glass of water or waste aquarium water to water the plants. Aquarium water is rich in nutrients! Your plants will love you! Fix those Drips! Last, but certainly not least. Fix those "dripping faucets." They consume water needlessly and can increase your monthly metered water bill, water heating bill (if its hot water dripping) and increases wastewater flow to the treatment facility. It saves YOU money and it saves US treatment capacity.
